ANXIETY DISORDERS
Psychological Disorder: A “harmful dysfunction” in which behavior is judged to be
- Atypical, disturbing, maladaptive, and justifiable.
DSM/V: Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Methods Disorder. (BOOK)
- Will classify disorders and describe the symptoms
- Will not explain the causes of possible cures.
- Leaves it up to you to “diagnose yourself”
Anxiety Disorders: A group of conditions where the primary symptoms are anxiety or defensive against anxiety.
Mindset: The person fears something awful will happen to them.
- How do they feel?
- They are in a state of intense apprehension, uneasiness, uncertainty, or fear
Phobia: A person experiences sudden episodes of intense dread.
Panic Disorder: An anxiety disorder married by a minute- long (Episode of Intense Dread) In which a person experiences terror and accompanying chest pain, choking and other frightening sensations.
- Can cause secondary disorders such as AGORAPHOBIA
- GAD- Generalized Anxiety Disorder: An Anxiety in which a person is continually tense, apprehensive and in a state of autonomic nervous system arousal.
- Worry ward
- Patients constantly tense and worried, feel inadequate, are oversensitive, can’t concentrate, and may suffer from insomnia.
- OCD- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: Obsession, and Compulsion
- Persistent unwanted thoughts (OBSESSION) cause someone to feel the need (Compulsion) to engage in a particular action.
- EXAMPLE: Washing, repeating
- PTSD- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: Flashbacks or nightmares following a person’s involvement in or observation of an extremely stressful event.
- Memories of the event could even cause anxiety.
