  • Socrates and Plato > Greek Philosophers
  • Socrates Belief: Mind is seperate from the body
  • Plato’s Beliefs: Mind continues after death

  • Aristotle
  • Beliefs: Soul is not separate from the body and that knowledge comes from experience.

  • Rene Descartes
  • Beliefs: Agreed with plato- Mind and body are separate.

  • John Locke
  • Beliefs: Tabula Rasa (Clean Slate)


Structuralism

PSYCHOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE
  1. Biological (Brain/ Nervous System)
  2. Behavioral (“Learned Behavior”)- Nothing to do with genetics, determined by experience.
  3. Cognitive (“Thinking”) How do they think?
  4. Evolutionary (How adaptive that behavior is to our survival)
  • Behavior > Inherited
  1. Humanistic (“Self love”)
  • Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers (View human nature as positive, growth mindset, fulfilling your potential)
  1. Sociocultural (Dictated by the culture you live in.)
7. Psychoanalytic/ Psychodynamic (UNCONSCIOUS MENTAL PROCESS that we do not normally have access to but are influenced by.)
